Congratulations Jr Football

A huge congratulations goes out to the JHSS Jr. Boys Football Team on their best season ever!  The Jr. Hawks represented JHSS with tremendous spirit against Sir John A. Macdonald in the “A” division WCSSAA semi-finals last night.  After a weak start on defense, the Jr. Hawks roared back, claiming the lead at half-time, but they fell just short of claiming victory at the end, in a brutal goal line battle, bringing their phenomenal 7-game winning streak to an end.  Coaches Hazenberg, Dobsky, Bruinsma, Ziegler, and Paddock would all like to thank the Jr. Hawks for their dedication and friendship this season.

The players are reminded to return their equipment at lunch on Friday Nov 20. Once again boys, congratulations on continuing the proud Jacob tradition with great season!

Movember Moustache - Nov 30

You may have noticed that a few of the male teachers around JHSS are looking a little scruffy lately! They have decided to join a global movement that is bringing much needed attention to prostate cancer.

They are doing this by growing a Moustache this Movember, the month formerly known as November.  Their commitment is to grow a moustache all November to change the face of men’s health.

The funds they raise during their Moustache journey go to Prostate Cancer Canada.

What many people don’t know is that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict Canadian men with 25,500 diagnosed and 4,400 dying from the disease each year.

Stay tuned for how you can participate to this worthy cause!

ImmunizationThis is just a reminder to parents to have your students get their proper immunizations.  Suspensions from school will happen again this year without the proper immunizations.  Do it now and save some time!!  Make sure YOU get the information to the health unit, not your doctor.

Attendance Reminders

Good attendance is generally the strongest determinant of school success.  This note is meant as a quick reminder to all parents.

If your son or daughter is unable to attend school, a parent or guardian should call the 24-hour attendance line at 658-4910 Ext. 1.  The other way to inform the school is for the student to bring in a note explaining the absence.  This should be done before 8:10 a.m. on the very next day.

If a student is coming to school after the official start then he/she must sign in.  A note will greatly speed up this process.  In addition, if a student needs to leave sometime before the official end of the school day, he/she must sign out with a note explaining the reason for the early dismissal.

Improving student attendance has been identified as a major goal for this year.  Student success will significantly increase as we work together to encourage regular, punctual attendance.
